The hand-picked 2015 Nierstein Orbel Riesling Spätlese is intensely fruity and refined on the nose, revealing ripe, concentrated and slightly caramelly fruit with herbal and flinty notes. Sweet and piquant on the palate, this is a salty, juicy, very fine and grippy Riesling with juicy fruit and the generosity of the warm 2015 vintage, which shouldn't be underrated. This is more than a sweet wine: it is a rich but lean and piquant wine to be served with the right dish, such as fish with stewed yellow paprika and herbs. It is still sweet, yes, but generous and vital and with huge aging potential. Drink date: 2020-2050.
