The 2021 Châteauneuf Du Pape Grand Vin comes more from clay soils and is 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 10% [Mourvèdre] that saw the Grenache brought up in demi-muids and foudre, and the rest in a mix of oak. It has a darker, more closed style of ripe black cherries, red plums, flowery incense, ground pepper, and gravelly earth. With beautiful richness, medium to full body, ripe tannins, and outstanding length, it's another incredibly charming, layered, seamless 2021 that offers more pleasure than most in the vintage.
